Barcelona airport connects to the city by rail, Metro, bus, and taxi; the best option depends on your hotel and luggage, particularly if the final streets are pedestrianized. Within the city, walking and Metro cover most journeys, while taxis help with hillside destinations and evening returns. Structure days by area: Passeig de Gracia with the Eixample, the Gothic Quarter with El Born, and Montjuic as a separate half day.
Park Guell and the beachfront sit in different directions, so avoid forcing them together. Keep belongings controlled on crowded transport and promenades, and ask your hotel which entrance is easiest when arriving by car.

The Eixample is the safest first choice for space, transport, restaurants, and landmark access; El Born offers atmosphere, while the Gothic Quarter requires careful attention to noise and vehicle access. Ask for an inward-facing or higher-floor room if nightlife sits nearby. Confirm terrace privacy, plunge-pool seasonality, and whether a rooftop is available to all guests or tied to a particular category.
Book timed admission for Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, and major Gaudi houses through official sites, then avoid scheduling them back to back. Reserve destination restaurants, but leave lunch opportunities open for markets, seafood, and small neighborhood kitchens.
Architecture before heat, coast before dinner
Barcelona feels complete when a dense cultural morning opens into an unhurried afternoon outdoors.
Take the first available entry at Sagrada Familia, then walk through the Eixample rather than immediately entering another Gaudi building. A long lunch nearby gives the architecture time to settle and protects the afternoon from becoming a checklist.
Spend a day moving from the Gothic Quarter into El Born, reading the shift from medieval lanes to workshops and boutiques. Continue toward the waterfront for late light, then return inland for dinner where the streets become quieter.
Use Montjuic or the coast as a counterweight to the dense center. Choose gardens, museums, and elevated views, or a beach walk with a seafood lunch. Barcelona feels most complete when stone streets and open air share the itinerary.
